It uses the W3C standard scalable vector graphics format (SVG) as primary format, however many other formats can be imported and exported like EPS, Postscript, JPEG, PNG, BMP, and TIFF. Inkscape’s main goal is to create a powerful and convenient drawing tool fully compliant with XML, SVG, and CSS standards.
Inkscape SVG supported features include basic shapes, paths, text, markers, clones, alpha blending, transforms, gradients, and grouping. In addition, Inkscape supports Creative Commons meta-data, node-editing, layers, complex path operations, text-on-path, and SVG XML editing.
